This is my contents page for my pre lim

Prelim 1

This is my first prelim that i have produced for my schools magazine.

Double Page Spread 3

I think that this double page spread is good as both pages link well with eachother. You can tell that they are on about the same story on both pages as it is all the same colour. Also the picture are of te same person on both pages.
The picture where i cuts off is good as it doesnt cut off straight down the midle of the persons face.
You can see the full image.
I think that by the image type you can tell this magazine is Hip Hop / Dance. I think this because of the title DISCO REVENGE and the clothes that the man is wearing. Also the way that he is standing, slanted on the wall.

Also i think that you can tell that the magazine is Hip Hop/ Dance because of the writing. As it looks bold and quite funky.
The way in which the writing is set out is on the left hand side of one of the pictures and underneath the other picture. I think that this is a good layout for the writing because the writing carrys onto the next page so if you would have to read on if you wanted the rest of the story.
The background colour i think is very good. As it blends in with the clothes that the man is wearing, also the writing on the background stands out very well because it is a light colour. This is good as the writing will attract the readers attention because it stands out well.
I think that the title is very good as it is bold and very clear to see. I think that it would attract the readers attention because it says that there is going to be DISCO REVENGE. This could mean many different things, so you would want to read the article to find out what it is on about.

Double Page Spread 1

This page is a normal layout of a Double Page Spread. Writing on one side and a main picture on the other.

The only thing that is linking these two pages together is the black bar across the page. If you didnt no who it was in the picture you wouldnt really no what the writing is about as it only has a black bar that is connecting the two pages together.

They have chosen to use a close up of the artist showing that she is happy and a lively person. It also says above the title PINK that they have paid the artist to answer these questions. This will attract the reader even more, as it could suggest that they have asked her questions that they might not have asked her if she didnt pay for it. The black writing is on a white background, this makes the writing stand out more and easier to read.

The main thing that i dont like about this page as it only has a little black bar for the link between the two pages. Although i think that it works well because it is the same colour. Like there is black writing and black background behind the main picture of 'Pink' and also in the bar which is connecting the two pages there is a yellow colour, also this is in the background of the main picture of 'Pink'.

Contents Page 3

The main image in this contents page is a picture of an artist that looks like they he is performing at a concert. This attracts the readers attention. Once they are attracted by the pciture there attention will then go to the writing and pictures that are around the image. This image is of the lead singer of 'My Chemical Romance'. It tells you what page that the story of the band is on. If you didnt no that the person was in 'My cheimcal romance' it tells you on THIS WEEK by the page number that it's My Cheimcal Romance. This helps if you dont no what the main picture is.

You can tell that it is a 'Rock' magazine because of the strong dark colours. The red and black. Also you would no that it is a 'Rock' magazine because of the main picture, as he is in a 'Rock' band.

The layout is set out so that the main image draws in the readers attention, by puttin a big bold picture on the contents. The writing is very easy and clear to see as it is on a light background with dark colours for the writing. This is good as it stands out on the background colour.

The pictures give a little bit of the story about what is going to be said in the write up of the band or people. Also under THIS WEEK at the sid of the page number gives you a few words about what, or who they are again also what the write up is about.

Contents page 2

The main story on this page is 'Oasis'. You can tell that they are by looking at the main headline and also the picture. As it is is the only picture on this page and it is also very big and easy to make out what is happening, this makes 'Oasis' stand out. The picture relates to the main headline as they are at a concert on there picture, and also the main headlin '...Oasis kicked off their world tour' relates to the picture.

The writing that is below the main headlin for 'Oasis' there is a little bit of writing, this is giving you a brief idea of what you can find on the actual main page for the band. This isgood because it will make the reader read on, also if the reader likes the story and the extra things that are in the magazine this will intreage them and want to buy this magazine more ofte.

Also the colours on this page, are set out equal to eachother. As under the NME title all the writing is red and under THIS WEEK the writing is all back. This also goes for the main title aswel. This is good because it is simple and easy to read, without a lot of confusion with the colours and the bacground as they are all simple colours to use. Also the advertisements on the page link in with the colour scheme asthey are the same colour as the rest of the title's and headings.

Contents page 1

I have chose to analyse this contents page as i like the layout. I believe that this is a good contents page as it have links between the numbers and the picture. The features reflect back to the images.
The box at the bottom left is a kicker, this is because it is in a box on it's own. Also the regulars means that every week in this magazine that is what will be added aswel.

The image that is set out in the middle could suggest that this is the main story to look at in the magazine, it could mean this is the most looked at and because it is exclusive these are the first people to have this article, no one else has got it except this music magazine. The main thing that i think stands out on this contents page is the main image of the exclusive story and the main title DRUMMER. This would catch the readers eye because of how big and bold the image and also how big and bold the title is.

I think that the colour in this contents page is good as it just uses 3 simple colours black, red and white. Also all of the colours i think stand out really well like the black and the red on the white background. Also i think that the date on the top left hand corner is really good as you can see through the writing. So you can see the background colour but also you can see the colour of the text. This is called translucent.

Front Cover 3

On this fron cover KINGS OF LEON are just taking over the whole of the front cover magazine of 'Q'. It says "KINGS OF LEON BREAK THROUGH". This suggests that they have done something good and now they are presenting it or going to tell it in this magazine.


The way in which the picture is set out is that the Killers are breaking through glass, This reflects back to the title BREAK THROUGH. The main image of them again is taking up all of the front cover as the glass is shattering all over the front of the magazine cover. The title, picture and the shattering of the glass are the things that catch the readers eye, as it looks like Kings of Leon are actually coming out of the magazine cover. The picture is a long shot of the group.

There is only two more stories around the outside of the front cover. '50 Best albums of 2008' and 'Play time for THE KILLERS'. This could suggest that inside there is a lot of information on the inside of the magazine of 'Kings Of Leon'.
There isnt a lot of text on this front cover. The picture basically is telling you the story.

Front Cover 2

Ciara is on the front cover of the VIBE magazine. The magazine is promoting her NEW BODY and her NEW MUSIC. The picture has been set out just outside of the centre of the page. The B in VIBE has been positioned behind Ciara so you can only see the top of the letter.

I think that the colour of the writing and the background works well together as they contrast with eachother. The yellow stands out well on the blue background. It also helps as it is a big bold font, which is easy to read.

Because of the colour it is simple and easy to read from far away it could catch your eye.

The information and text around the picture shows you what you can excpect to read in this magzine. Below the bar code on the magazine, is a website adress to the VIBE magazine website. http://www.vibe.com/

Cover research 1

The image on this front cover from 'NME' magazine shows that 'THE GOSSIP' are the main headline. Also it gives you some of the lyrics of the song "standing in the way of control". The magazine shows a close up of a women with a man either side of her. Also one of the men take over the 'NME' title. There are also a lot more variety of pictures on this front cover, Noel Gallaghers head sowing that there is a story in there about him and also Muse. They use a big close up of the band to catch the readers eye. It tells you what the story is about underneath there picture.

The colours that they use are red, white and black this is good as all the colours show up well on eachother. As they are quite dark colours you wouldnt be able to see them quite clear in the dark, I think it needs to be more bright and eye catching colours so that people will see it and want to buy it rather than havin dull colours, this makes the magazine look boring.

'NME' magazine set out there front cover so that 'THE GOSSIP' is the main headline of there magazine, there are also other pictures, writing and stories around the outside of the main picture this is showing some other things that will be in the magazine.
